Learn to Swim registration

Registration for the 2017 American Red Cross Learn to Swim program will be held at City Pool, May 17-19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and May 20 from 10 a.m. until noon.

The program is for all ages, from 3 years old to adults, and the cost is $12 per student per two-week session. The sessions will run from June 5-16, June 26-July 8, July 17-28, and the times of each class vary by age. Classes fill on a first-come, first-served basis and early registration is encouraged.

Registration must be made in person. Payment can be made with cash or check payable to the City of Vicksburg. All payments are due at the time of registration.

Kings basketball weekend

The Kings Empowerment Center will host the “Basketballers’ Weekend” May 19-21. The event starts with a 3-point shootout on May 19 at 6:30 p.m., and continues with an adult basketball tournament May 20 beginning at 10 a.m.

The entry fee for the 3-point contest is $3. Admission is free for spectators.
The tournament is for teams with players ages 19-and-up, and the entry fee is $125 per team. The registration deadline is Monday, May 15. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and admission for fans is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 18.

There will also be a 3-on-3, single elimination tournament on May 21 with three age divisions — fifth through eighth grade, ninth through 12th, and ages 19-and-up. The entry fee for this tournament is $15 per team. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., games start at 4 p.m., and admission is free.

WC baseball tryouts

Tryouts for Warren Central’s baseball team will be held May 15 and 16, at 5 p.m. each day, at Viking Field. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. on May 15. Tryouts are open to students who will be in grades 8-12 in the 2017-18 school year. All players must have a current physical, cleats and a glove. They must also fill out concussion and participation forms prior to the tryouts.

Jackson Street Camp

Registration for the Jackson Street Summer Camp will continue until June 3. The camp is for children ages 6-10, and is free. Registration forms are available at the Jackson Street gym and the Parks and Recreation Department offices at 100 Army Navy Drive, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Play 2 Wynn camp

The 15th annual Play 2 Wynn Basketball Camp will be held June 19-23 at Vicksburg Junior High School, from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
