Wife indicted for killing husband

A Warren County grand jury has indicted a Vicksburg woman for murder in the September 2016 shooting death of her husband.

Becky Gail Harris, 47, is accused of shooting her husband, 61-year-old Alfred “Stan” Harris, in the back of the head during an argument at the couple’s home.

Officers on Sept. 12, 2016, were called to the couple’s Smedes Street home about a shooting, and as they arrived on scene, Harris flagged them down and reported a shooting occurred inside her home. Officers found Alfred Harris dead in a bedroom.

In another case involving a death, Curtis Lee Valentine was indicted on a charge of DUI-aggravated controlled substances involving a one-car wreck on Moseley Gap Road Nov. 22 that resulted in the death of Katherine “Katy” Nicole Martin, 20, of Vicksburg. Valentine is accused of driving the car while under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to Warren County Sheriff’s Office reports, the car appeared to be traveling on Moseley Gap Road before losing control on a curve. The car, a 2011 Nissan Altima, then left the road, struck a tree and then rolled more than once before coming to rest in the middle of the road.

Valentine, 20, and Kahlil Brown, 21, a passenger in the car were injured in the wreck.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene by Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey and was later identified by family members at a local funeral home.

In other indictments include:

• Chris Lamont Harris, 41: statutory rape involving a victim under the age of 14 in connection with an incident occurring in October 2016. Harris was indicted as a habitual offender because he has two previous convictions for grand larceny and sale of cocaine.

• Kendrick Cameron Barnett and Tyree Tyrell Barnett: armed robbery, aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit a felony. The pair are accused of robbing a man at gunpoint in August 2016.

• Herbert Boyd Smith Jr.: kidnapping, aggravated assault-domestic violence and possession of a weapon after a felony conviction. He is accused of holding a woman in her home at gunpoint and striking her in the face with the gun.

• Carl Pace, 80: two counts of aggravated assault. He is accused of using a shotgun with birdshot and shooting and wounding two men as they walked past his house Nov. 5. One man was wounded in the lower back, while the other was hit in the leg. The men, who were not identified, were treated and released from Merit Health River Region Medical Center.

• Melvin Martez Harris, 23: aggravated assault and possession of a weapon after felony conviction.

Harris is accused of shooting Jonathan Cox, 39,in the leg during an argument at the Top Five Food Mart at the corner of Bowmar Avenue and Drummond Street that began in the store when Cox argued with a store clerk over change the clerk had given him.

• Mack Charles Taylor: third-offense domestic violence.

• Grant Jones: possession of a weapon after felony conviction.

• Tina Brown: vehicle burglary.

• Mack Charles Taylor: third-offense domestic violence.

• Angela Hasty Jobe and John Travis Ross: possession of a controlled substance.

• Anthony Turner: possession of a controlled substance.

• Dennis Fitzgerald Woods: attempting to acquire or obtain a controlled substance or prescription by fraud.

• Charles Gilbert Vance: prescription forgery.

• Kayla Chisolm: possession of a controlled substance.

• Austin Kyle McCormick: possession of a controlled substance.

• Larry Darnell Odom: possession of a controlled substance.

• Antonio Hicks: domestic violence-aggravated assault-strangling.

• Shandrick Montgomery: sale of a controlled substance.

• John Ross: three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon after felony conviction.

• Kimberly Denise Bell: four counts of obtaining a controlled substance by embezzlement.

• Jerome Baker: Simple assault on a law enforcement officer.

• John Taylor Burton and Amanda Harris: grand larceny. Burton is being indicted as a habitual offender because he has prior convictions for felony malicious mischief and grand larceny.

• Carlos Jenkins and Jermaine K. Sims: burglary of a dwelling and armed robbery.

• Robert Earl Wheatley: domestic aggravated assault-strangling.

• Charles Tyler Ferrington: possession of a controlled substance.

• Kathryn Michelle Tuggle: credit card fraud.

• Sanatanna Dominique Maggiefield: embezzlement.

• Lavextwin Trunell: grand larceny.

• Beth Brister: forgery of a written instrument.

• George Thompson: obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.

• Christopher Keith Page, possession of a controlled substance.
