A truck stop could soon be coming to the Ceres Industrial Park, pending approval by the Warren County Board of Supervisors.

The Warren County Port Commission Monday approved recommending the board approve the sale of an 11-acre tract in the industrial park near the Flowers exit on Interstate 20 westbound for $275,000 to Terra Holdings, LLC, owner of the Sprint Mart stores.

The company has stores in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama.

“The store will have gas pumps, a convenience store and a possible restaurant,” said port commission chairman Margaret Gilmer. “It will also have a truck scale. We’re happy to have it in Ceres.”

Gilmer said the truck stop’s location will be a boon to the industries and businesses in the park, providing a place where people going to work can stop for gas, to buy items or get something to eat “without having to go to Bovina or Vicksburg.”

“And when the county finishes paving Henry Lake Road, it is expected to bring more traffic and people to the store,” she said.

The county is expected to open bids June 5 to pave Henry Lake Road. The project will be funded by state air road funds.

In a related matter, the commissioners tabled action accepting the donation of a 53-acre tract adjacent to the Ceres Industrial park until they could meet with property owner Pete Buford to discuss some issues involving the land.

Presently, the only plans for the property if the county approves the donation, is its use as a buffer between the industrial park and a nearby residential area.

It recessed its meeting until Wednesday, when it will make a decision on the land.

Gilmer said the commission was concerned about the possibility of wetlands on the property and who would pay for an environmental assessment of the property.
