A Vicksburg man was sentenced to life in prison Friday after his conviction for first-degree murder, Warren County District Attorney Ricky Smith said.

Derrick Ramone Hall was convicted Friday after a weeklong trial in Warren County Circuit Court. The trial was the second for Hall on the charge. A trial in March ended in a hung jury with 11 jurors voting to convict, requiring the retrial. Mississippi law requires a unanimous jury to convict a person of a crime.

Smith said the second jury deliberated for about 45 minutes before returning a verdict of guilt. Circuit Judge M. James Chaney sentenced Hall immediately, he said.

Hall was arrested May 6, 2015, and charged with fatally stabbing 31-year-old Kathryn Peacock at 1224 Grammar St.

Peacock was found in her home at about 8 p.m. by her boyfriend who called 911, police said. Authorities said officers arrived to find her with multiple stab wounds.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Ron Regan, who sent Peacock’s body to the Mississippi State Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy.

Smith said he was unable to seek the death penalty in the case because Hall was not committing another felony crime when he killed Peacock.
