Johnnie Mae Spencer Palmer

Johnnie Mae Spencer Palmer known affectionately to her children as “Mommee” was born November 27, 1928 in Vicksburg. She was the youngest of four children born to Johnnie and Lottie Spencer.  She transitioned from earthly labors to eternal rest May 18, 2017.

She was a faithful member of Saint Mark Freewill Baptist Church, where she served for many years as an usher and member of the Mother’s Board.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Lottie Tucker Spencer; her husband, Cleveland Henry Palmer; siblings, Joseph Tucker, Elizabeth Tucker and Tillie Spencer-Walker; and granddaughter, Jerrine M. Chambliss.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, four sons, Cleveland Carl Palmer (Leilani) of Highland, Calif., Anthony John Palmer (Sara) of Crystal Springs, Lemond Palmer of Arlington, Texas and Glen Dale Palmer of Vicksburg; three daughters, Lamar Palmer Brown, Lottie Elaine Palmer Burns, both of Vicksburg and Paula Yolanda Palmer Taylor (Douglas) of Huntsville, Ala.; over fifty grand, great-grand and great-great grandchildren, three of which were raised in her home, Angela Palmer-Johnson (Jeffrey) of Columbia, Anthony Keith Palmer of Jackson and Jazzmyne Burns of Vicksburg; four nieces, Judie Tucker Hodge of Vicksburg, Earline P. Walker Perique of Gretna, La., Lois Tucker Johnson of Detroit, Mich. and Sophie Tucker of Chicago, Ill.; three special goddaughters, Lisa “Baby” Galloway, I’Lexus Goldsberry and Mary Palmer, all of Vicksburg; and a host of loving relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at House of Peace Worship Church International with Apostle Linda Sweezer officiating.

Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 7 p.m. with family present from 6 to 7 p.m.
