Schools: Missed days won’t be made up

Vicksburg Warren School District students and employees will not have to make up the two days missed because of last week’s water outage in the city of Vicksburg following a school board decision Wednesday.

Employees will be paid for the two missed days according to the district.

The school board has the ability to waive up to 10 days without receiving approval from the state and followed the recommendation of Superintendent Chad Shealy to not makeup the two missed days.

Schools were forced to release early on May 17, after a water main broke leaving the entire city without water. They remained closed Thursday and Friday before reopening on Monday.

The closure forced multiple events throughout the district to be rescheduled.

Warren Central and Vicksburg high schools rescheduled final exams, and the district had to reschedule retakes of state tests after receiving a waiver from the state.
