After two rounds of bids failed to produce an acceptable selling price, the Warren County Board of Supervisors approved board attorney Blake Teller to move forward with a written contract to sell the county’s Magnolia Road property off U.S. 61 South to HHG for $166,800.

The vote to authorize Teller to move forward with the sale was unanimous.

The property is being sold as-is, and as part of the proposed contract the closing will be held 10 days after the agreement is finalized.

The Board of Supervisor was able to sell the property outside of the bid process after declaring it to be surplus property of no use to the county.

The board opened bids on the 12-acre property once in December and again in January, but failed to reach an agreement either time. No bids were received the first time and the two bids received the second time were rejected by the board in March.

The rejected bids were an offer of $26,000 from Rachel Walker and an offer of $62,500 from John W. Massey. Both were rejected as inadequate.

The land was acquired by the county in the 1960s and returned to county control after the sublessee did not keep the lease up and allowed it to terminate.
