Louis James “Goody” Gooden, youngest son of the late Mr. Percy L. and Mrs. Sammie E. Gooden, passed away at Merit Health River Region May 27, 2017. He was 73.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, he served as supervisor with the Mississippi State Hwy Dept. for more than 30 years. He also served as a security officer at Alcorn State University in Lorman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Sammie Gooden; eldest sister, Annie Marie Grant; and his older brother, Percy L. Gooden Jr.

He is survived by his sister, Emma L. Maxwell; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vicksburg. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. and praying of the Rosary will be 6 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

Pallbearers are, Milton J. Grant Ill, Sammy L. Grant, Malcolm A. Grant, Rev. Troy D. Truly Sr. and members of the Men’s Club of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
