Clyde A. ‘Poppy’ Stinson

Clyde A. “Poppy” Stinson died Wednesday, May 31, 2017, as a result of an automobile accident. He was 65.

A native of Pike County, he had lived most of his life in Vicksburg, where he was a graduate of H.V. Cooper High School and also attended Southwest Junior College.

He was retired from the Boilermakers Union No. 110 in Hattiesburg. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved sharing the outdoors with his grandchildren. He was proud of his southern heritage.

He was a member of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship. He loved his family, his church and his church family and was noted for his big heart and his big hugs.

He talked to the Lord daily, always ending with this simple prayer: Thank you Lord for giving us this day, it’s been a good one.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Beryl and Tommie Jean Case Stinson; and a grandson, David Beryl Stinson.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte H. Stinson of Vicksburg; his daughter, Larissa “Risa” Ann Stinson Garner of Vicksburg; his son, Clyde Beryl “C.B.” Stinson of Vicksburg; his brother, Beryl Quint Stinson of Vicksburg; and his six grandchildren, Joshua Clyde Barrett, Jacob Austin Barrett, Jessie Steven Barrett, Clyde Christian Stinson, Kathryn Elizabeth Jean Stinson and Anaya Elise Stinson.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 5, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home with Tommy Presson and Greg Johnston officiating.

Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be noon Monday until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Barrett, Jacob Barrett, Jessie Barrett, Mike Walker, Vic Johnston, Billy Allen, Chad Harrell and Lee Maza.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Ray Dickerson, David “Whimp” Harrell, Hoyt Hogan and Mike Garner.
