Monsour can move South Ward forward

The city’s South Ward has been the site of much of the growth and development within Vicksburg in recent years, and with the proposal of a sports complex and multi-million dollar water park near the Outlets of Vicksburg, more is projected.
For the last four years, Willis Thompson has served South Ward residents competently. With 10 years in city government prior to being elected alderman four years ago, he has focused primarily on helping to shore up the city’s finances and making progress with the paving of South Ward roads.
But much work remains to be done in economic development in Vicksburg and its South Ward. We think that work requires the experience and contacts that state Rep. Alex Monsour brings to the table.
That’s why Monsour has earned the endorsement of The Vicksburg Post for South Ward alderman.
We think Monsour has the leadership and experience needed to help move the city’s South Ward forward, while helping drive economic development and infrastructure repairs in all of Vicksburg.
Monsour’s work in the state Legislature has left him with a wealth of knowledge about the workings of state and federal government and contacts among those who wield influence, which could pay off handsomely for our city.
Further, Monsour is well acquainted with those who are at work here in the newly formed economic development group and can readily be an asset to that process.
In his work in the state Legislature, Monsour gained knowledge of the needs for expansion of Vicksburg’s ports, as well as the players who can help make that expansion happen.
In our discussion with Monsour about what he wants for the South Ward and the city, it’s clear one of Monsour’s priorities is stopping the blood loss brought about by the city’s declining population. He has a plan of action to address which combines cleaning up the negative perception others have about our city now, working to increase tourism revenue and using his contacts to bring about additional jobs in Vicksburg.
We have no doubt Thompson can continue to adequately serve South Ward residents. However, the South Ward needs someone with Monsour’s ability and passion to push Vicksburg and the South Ward forward quickly.
