Major economic announcement involving downtown development sparks a very good week in news

Attractions will expand for the River City when the Margaritaville Resort opens it doors in 2018. It was announced Tuesday the Portofino Hotel would reopen in 2018 as a Margaritaville.

Once completed, the resort will include the nine-story, 117-room hotel with suites and rooms, an indoor arcade, a restaurant and a coffee shop, fitness center and a recreation area called the “Coral Reef Water Playground.” Cono Caranna, a developer who is affiliated with Margaritaville Biloxi, said the arcade would offer the latest in video and electronic games and other activities.

4 Four members of the Warren Central High School Class of 2017 were recognized as Mississippi Scholars Tech Masters. They are the first Vicksburg Warren School District students to earn the distinction.

Olivia White, Hunt Holdiness, Hunter Hughes and Blake Wilson were named Tech Masters for their academic achievements during their participation in the VWSD Career and Technical Center.

To be named Tech Masters, students must complete two years in the program, score at least an 18 on the ACT, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, complete 40 hours of community service and have at least 95 percent school attendance throughout high school.
