Betty Lee Grundfest Lamensdorf died June 12, 2017, peacefully at her home in Cary after a lengthy illness.  She was 82.

Funeral Services will be Friday, June 16, at 3 p.m. at Anshe Chesed Congregation with Rabbi Jeremy Simons officiating.

Visitation will be 1:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. 

Burial will follow at Anshe Chesed Cemetery. 

Born April 22, 1935, in Vicksburg, she was a lifelong resident of Cary. She was the daughter of the late Ike Grundfest and June Flanagan Grundfest and was the third generation to live in Cary.  She graduated from Cary School and attended the University of Alabama. 

She played a supportive role in her family’s farming operation and was devoted to her family, which was the center of her life.  She was involved in a number of civic, historic and social organizations.

Her focus was organizations that benefited children, and volunteered as the troop leader for Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts and served on the board of Jewish Children’s Regional Services and the Institute of Southern Jewish Life.   She was a member of Anshe Chesed Congregation of Vicksburg. 

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ben Lamensdorf, whom she married on September 2, 1956.  Together, they have two children, Deborah Lamensdorf Jacobs (Dr. Lou) of Atlanta and Mike Lamensdorf (Mary Jane) of Rolling Fork; and five grandchildren, David Jacobs, Jonathan Jacobs, Lauren Lamensdorf, Lindsey Lamensdorf and Gaines Lamensdorf.  She is also survived by her sister, Ann Grundfest Gerache of Vicksburg; and brother-in-law, Stan Kline of Vicksburg. 

Active pallbearers are Dr. Lou Jacobs, David Jacobs, Jonathan Jacobs, Gaines Lamensdorf, Robert Emmich, Mark Kline, Steve Kline and Jack Grundfest. 

Honorary pallbearers are Mary Hazel Weissinger, Rickey Moore, Lillian Opotowsky and cousins, nieces and nephews. 

The family is grateful to her devoted team of caregivers who allowed her to live in peace and dignity at home.
