A Gulfport man has been sentenced to four years in prison and five years post-release supervision after pleading guilty in Warren County Circuit Court to possession of a weapon after felony conviction, possession of a stolen firearm and larceny-motor vehicle.

Joshua Henry Phelps, 30, was arrested May 19, 2016, after stealing a 2012 Toyota from a convenience store parking lot in the 3500 block of U.S. 61 South, and leading police and sheriff’s deputies on a chase that ended on Interstate 20 East, east of the U.S. 61 North exit. At the time of his arrest, he was carrying a .25-caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Circuit Judge M. James Chaney sentenced Phelps to 10 years in prison with four years to serve and five years post-release supervision on each count. The sentences will be served concurrently, meaning they will be served at the same time.

Chaney also ordered Phelps to pay a fine, court costs and fees totaling $1,584.50.

In another case, Dennis Fitzgerald Woods, 53, was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to attempting to acquire or obtain a controlled substance or prescription by fraud. Woods was indicted in May by the Warren County grand jury.

Besides the prison sentence, Woods was also ordered to pay a fine, court costs and fees totaling $1,584.50.
