Bettye West Van Norman

Bettye West Van Norman died Friday, June 16, 2017, at St. Dominic Medical Center in Jackson. She was 79.

Mrs. Van Norman was a lifelong resident of Warren County.  She was the daughter of the late William P. and Mattie West. She was a graduate of J.H. Culkin Academy and was also a graduate of Mississippi College, having received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree.

She retired from Waterways Experiment Station and later worked for Warren-Yazoo Mental Health as the director of the Chemical Dependency Center, retiring in 2012. She was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church (now Crossway Church), where she served as Sunday school teacher and was actively involved in assisting with the youth. She had been a resident of Brandon for the past five years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Van Norman was preceded in death by her husband, Noel Van Norman; two sisters, Irene Trammel and Martha Madden; and a brother, Sonny West.

She is survived by her son, Bobby Van Norman (Jennifer) of Brandon; her grandson, Hayden Van Norman; her two granddaughters, Kaylee Van Norman and Kendall Van Norman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Riles Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be Hayden Van Norman, Bryan Bridges, Dr. Christopher Wiggs, Greg Hayes, Michael Busby, Jon Busby, and Chris Busby.
