Despite assurances that the splash pad in the Catfish Row Art Park in downtown Vicksburg would be up and running by the end of the day Thursday, it will remain closed for maintenance at least through the weekend.

The splash pad has been closed for about two weeks after issues with the filter motor, impeller and pump were discovered. The new parts were installed Thursday, but South Ward alderman Alex Monsour, who oversees parks and recreation, said the splash pad still would not operate.

“I am going to get it running,” Monsour said. “Our local guys just can’t figure out how to get it cranked up. They aren’t sure if it is something to do with the motor. We hear the motor running, but it won’t pressurize to the right level before it cuts on.”

Monsour said a crew is being brought in from Jackson Monday morning with the hope they can identify the problem.

“It is something that is not communicating between the electrical grid to the motor, but we can’t narrow it down,” Monsour said. “It might be something about this motor that isn’t pressurizing to a certain extent to let it run. What we have to do is get those guys over here to test everything on that motor, and they are the guys that can go in there and fix it if need be.”

The identical parts to those originally in place are no longer manufactured and retrofitted parts had to be ordered.
