A Vicksburg woman was sentenced to house arrest after pleading guilty in Warren County Circuit Court to embezzling money from Trustmark Bank on Halls Ferry where she was a teller, District Attorney Ricky Smith said.

Circuit Judge M. James Chaney sentenced Muriel Holmes, 46, to 12 years in prison with two years’ house arrest and the balance of the sentence suspended pending successful completion of five years’ post-release supervision. She was also ordered to pay $26,000 in restitution to the bank.

Smith said Holmes was accused of stealing $50,000 from the bank on Oct. 20, 2015. A warrant was issued for her arrest and she was arrested Nov. 30, 2015, during a traffic stop.

He said Holmes claimed she stole less than $50,000, and the $26,000 restitution was a compromise agreement between his office and Holmes and her attorney that was also agreed on by the bank.

“Trustmark worked with us all through this case,” Smith said.
