The second annual Back2Schoool book bag giveaway will take place Saturday. The event will begin at noon at Rodney’s Store, located at 1318 South St. in Vicksburg.

Event organizer Jeremi Meekins said they will be giving out 300 to 500 book bags filled with school supplies during the giveaway. The bags and supplies were donated by a long list of sponsors including McDonalds.

Last year, 200 bags were handed out during the giveaway and Meekins said more are still rolling in this year.

“It means a lot for me to bless others so they can further their education,” Meekins said.

There will also be guest speakers including Mayor George Flaggs Jr. and a raffle for haircuts provided by Catherine Wilson at 61 Cutz.

The giveaway is open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade and local football players and cheerleaders will be helping to hand out the bags, Meekins said.
