The home-going service for Mother Lucille Bracey will be Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Cool Springs M.B. Church, 385 Faulk Steel Road, Vicksburg, with pastor Byron Maxwell officiating.

A family hour will be Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mother Lucille Bracey was born April 12, 1919, in Baton Rouge, La., to the late Henry and Nettie Crayton Bracey.

On Thursday, July 27, 2017, her father slowly began her transition as she was surrounded by family. The Lord sent one of his angels down at 3:27 p.m. and whispered these sweet words, “My dear child, your work here is done.”

Mother Lucille Bracey accepted Christ at a very young age in Baton Rouge. She became a member of Cool Springs M.B. Church in Vicksburg more than 65 years ago. She served faithfully as a choir member first and then made her way to the mother board.

Up until her death, Mother Bracey was faithful, active and remained aware of all events going on within the church and especially Mother Board activities.

She was the oldest living member of Cool Springs M.B. Church to include the longest living mother holding a position on the mother board.

Mother Lucille Bracey was a mother of eight children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Nettie; grandparents, Albert and Caroline; nine siblings, Easter Bracey, Essie-Dee Morgan, Nettie Bracey, Hayward Bracey, Henry Bracey, John Bracey, Joe Bracey, J.L. Maxie and L.C. Maxie; four children, Aline King, Warren Askew, Joseph King Jr., and Ernestine Queen; and five great-grandchildren, Terry Wright, Brea Garrett, Terry Robinson, Joseph Gibson and Jeffrey King Sr.

Mother Lucille Bracey leaves to cherish her precious memories to one son, Leroy (Ethel) King Sr. of Chicago; three daughters, Lucille (MacArthur Sr.) Albert and Lorine (James) King ,both of Vicksburg, and Thelma (Johnny) Hubbard of San Francisco; one special cousin, Ella Mae Dewberry of Chicago; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and extended families of the DeFrance, King, Dewberry, Nelson, Farish, Carson, Marshall, and Cole Family.
