Law enforcement conducts ‘Street Corner Sweep’

Thursday, officers with the Vicksburg Police Department, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and Warren County Drug Court conducted an operation called “Street Corner Sweep.”

The five individuals arrested face charges ranging from probation violation to felony drug possession.

“Drug crime will not be tolerated in the city of Vicksburg and the Vicksburg Police Department and assisting agencies are serious about getting drugs off of our city streets and out of this community in an effort to reduce crime,” Vicksburg Police Chief Milton Moore said.

During the Street Corner Sweep, officers seized $2,218 and one firearm. Several other misdemeanor arrests were also made during the Street Corner Sweep.   

Herman Williams, 41, of Pearl Street, was arrested on probation violation.

Jonathan Phelps, 28, of Linda Drive, was arrested and charged for possession of ecstasy.

Darryl Williams, 24, of Halls Ferry Road, was arrested and charged for possession of cocaine and marijuana.

Cory Hicks, 26, of China Street, was arrested and charged with possession of ecstasy and cocaine.

Sean Gibbs, 30, of Court Street, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine.

Phelps appeared in municipal court Friday.

The remainder of those charged will appear in Warren Justice Court.
