It’s just about time to play ball in Vicksburg.

Registration is now open for the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department’s co-ed adult softball league.
The league is open to anyone who is 16 years old or older as of April 1, 2017, and play will begin in September. Registration closes on Sept. 15.

Jay Harper, assistant director of the Parks and Recreation Department, said the co-ed league is designed to be more fun than competitive.

“It is our goal to provide an opportunity for all who is involved to develop new relationships and strengthen old relationships by laughing, bonding, and sharing life together,” Harper said. “Everybody will get to play and have a little fun, and we play a little softball in the meantime.”

The registration fee for the league is $175 per team. Each team can have up to 20 players, with up to 11 playing at a time. There is an additional fee of $10 for any player who lives outside the Vicksburg city limits, and $20 for any player who lives in Sharkey, Issaquena or Claiborne counties.

“The main thing is getting the women to play with the men,” Harper said. “You just go out there and have fun.”
Games will be played Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights depending on the number of teams that register, at the City Park softball fields on Army Navy Drive.

There will be a mandatory coaches’ meeting at the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department office on Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m.

For additional information, to register, or to schedule practice times on the fields, call the Parks and Recreation Department office at 601-634-5414 or send an email to jeharper@vicksburg.org.
