Joseph Washington

Joseph Washington was the youngest of nine children born to the union of Alf “Peter” Washington and Henrietta Carter Washington. Growing up and living most of his 90 years in Warren County, he was employed at several companies eventually working for Anderson Tully Mill, where he would work until his retirement.
He was a longtime resident of Waltersville, Browns Alley, where he lived until he escaped the floods one last time in 2009 and moved next to his older brother and his old sister on his.
He would live in this threesome of 90 year olds until the Lord called him home Sunday, Aug. 5, 2017.
He was a member of New Zion M.B. Church, where he worshiped religiously until his illness last year. He also regularly attended Pleasant Hill M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Winn Washington; his parents, Alf and Henrietta Washington; sister, Malissa Thomas; and brothers, Alf, William, George, Burrell and David Washington.
He leaves to cherish his memory a son, Joseph (Sylvia) Hall of Jacksonville, N.C.; three daughters, Marylee Bernard (Tommie) Robinson of Romeoville, Ill.; Sandra Belfield of Katy, Texas and Karen Meeks of Vicksburg; sister and brother, Mary and Elijah “Bo” Washington, both of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Joseph (Shuntrice) Hall Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., Christi (William) Roberts of Columbia, S.C., Johnathen (Susanna) Belfield and Dimenya Benard, both of Katy; six great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Aug. 13, at New Zion M.B. Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Henry Williams officiating.
Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery with W. H Jefferson Funeral Home in charge.
Visitation will be Saturday at the Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m.
