Sammy Lee Bonds

CARY — Sammy Lee Bonds, 78, passed away peacefully at home in Cary on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017.
Mr. Bonds is survived by his wife Margaret; his sons Tad R. Bonds (Mary Ellen), of Cary; John L. Bonds (Misty) of Holly Bluff; Chris VanNorman of Vicksburg; and daughter Michelle Angell (Sean) of Woodland Park, Co. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He is also survived by two sisters, Sue B. Harvey and Marijon Bates of Etta, and one brother, Gary C. Bonds of Tupelo.
Mr. Bonds was born on August 31, 1938, in Oxford to John Jim and Mary Coffey Bonds. He graduated from Cary High School. After four years in the Air Force, he moved to Vicksburg. Later he returned to Cary to work for Bellgrade Lumber Company and eventually became Manager. He also served as Mayor of Cary and on the Board of Aldermen.
After Bellgrade closed, he worked for Sharkey County until he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Brandon R. Bonds.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 14, at Cary Baptist Church where he was a member for over 50 years.
Visitation is at 1 p.m., service at 2 p.m., burial to follow in Cary Cemetery.
