Three nonprofit organizations will be in a position to help aid those in need thanks to a generous donation of office equipment and furniture including beds, tables, sofas, chairs, desks, lamps, mattresses and bedding.

Michael Hudson, the general manager of the Vicksburg Hampton Inn and Suites, is coordinating the dispersement of the contents of the now closed Vicksburg Inn and Suites stated a press release.

“We were pleased with the owners’ decision to donate the contents from the closed property to these three very worthy local charities. Many individuals and families will benefit,” Hudson said.

The recipients of the donated furniture are the River City Rescue Mission, the American Red Cross Chapter of Southwest Mississippi and the Salvation Army.

“This major donation is a tremendous help to the mission,” River City Rescue Mission director Earnie Hall said. “About half of the merchandise will be given away to single parents, the homeless trying to reestablish, burn out victims and others in dire need. The other half will be sold in our thrift store to raise funds to help pay utility bills for those who simply cannot make their payments. Our funds were virtually depleted and this could not have come at a better time,” Hall said.

The estimated value of the furniture that was donated to the three organizations totaled more than $100,000.

Veronica Stubbs with the American Red Cross Chapter of Southwest Mississippi said, their organization appreciated the Vicksburg Inn and Suites and Hampton Inn’s generosity because it’s contributions like this that allow them to serve the community.

“Their generosity makes it all possible,” Stubbs said.

Local Salvation Army Major Mary Welch echoed Stubbs sentiments.

“Donations like this make it possible for The Salvation Army to help so many others. It’s a lot of really nice furniture that is now in our newly opened thrift store. This will be a great help to the low income. Plus, the funds that it generates go to assist the needy in many ways. We are most grateful for the generosity,” Welch said.
