Sidney Johnson McGuffee Sr. died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at Promise Hospital in Vicksburg. He was 84.

Mr. McGuffee was a native and lifelong resident of Warren County, and the son of the late Robert Barnes McGuffee and Gunnette Dillon McGuffee.  He was a graduate of J.H. Culkin Academy and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. McGuffee retired from the construction industry and later worked as a self-employed contractor. He was a member and past deacon of Trinity Baptist Church. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. McGuffee was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda McGuffee; a grandson, William McGuffee; four brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by three sons, Sidney J. McGuffee Jr. (Dianne) of Nigeria, Barry McGuffee (Renee) of Vicksburg and Rodney McGuffee (Lailanie) of Brandon; two brothers, Billy McGuffie (Mary Ann) of Vicksburg and Charlie McGuffee (Mary Lou) of Winter Park, Fla.; his grandchildren, Joshua McGuffee, Benjamin McGuffee, Kristen Rea, Jenny Miller, Mallory McGuffee, Bradley McGuffee and Adam McGuffee; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Burch officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of Trinity Baptist Church.
