VSWD Hall of Fame

Tickets are now on sale for the Vicksburg Warren School District Athletic Hall of Fame induction banquet, which will be held Thursday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. at the Vicksburg City Auditorium. Tickets are $20 per person and available at the VWSD athletic office on Mission 66.

This year’s inductees are Warren Central football coach Robert Morgan; Warren Central baseball player Taylor Tankersley; basketball players Michael Phelps (Vicksburg High) and Mary Logue (Warren Central); football players Eddie Burns (Vicksburg) and George Nasif (South Vicksburg); and Warren Central softball player Jackie Pettway.

Mad Scientist 5K

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Research and Development Center will host the inaugural Mad Scientist 5K Run and Walk on Sept. 9. The race will begin and end near the Information Technology Building on the ERDC campus at 1165 Porters Chapel Road.

Raceday registration will begin at 7 a.m., and the race at 8. The entry fee is $20 before Sept. 1 for the 5K run and walk, or $15 for the 1-mile fun run. The entry fee for teams of up to 3-5 people is $75.

Flag football registration

Registration for the Vicksburg Warren Flag Football Association’s 2017 season will continue until Sept. 3. The season starts Sept. 10. The registration fee is $40 per person.

Adult co-ed softball

Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s adult co-ed softball league will continue until Sept. 15. The registration fee is $175 per team, plus an extra $10 for residents of Warren County and $20 for each resident of Sharkey, Issaquena and Claiborne counties.

There is a mandatory coaches meeting Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the City of Vicksburg’s Parks and Recreation Department office at 100 Army Navy Drive. For more information, call 601-634-4514.

Fall baseball registration

Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s fall youth baseball league will continue until Sept. 15. The league is for players ages 5-15, and will be split into five age groups. Coaches are needed for all teams.

The registration fee is $25 per player. Registration forms are available at 601 Sports on Pemberton Blvd., and at the Parks and Rec offices at 100 Army Navy Drive. For information call 601-634-4514.

Hinds CC golf tourney

Hinds Community College’s Warren-Claiborne County Alumni Chapter will host the Clyde Donnell and Othel Mendrop Memorial Golf Tournament Oct. 18 at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina.

The four-person scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Registration begins at 12:30. The registration fee is $75 per player. Hole sponsorships are available for $100, and team sponsorships for $300.
