Shirley Branch Darby died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at Heritage House Retirement Center. She was 85.

A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, she lived her early life in Tensas Parish, La., before living most of her life in Vicksburg. She was a retired certified nurse’s aide and was of the Baptist Faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Aline Atchley Branch; her son, Franklin P. Gipson IV; her brother, William E. Branch Jr.; her sister, Margie B. Chase; and her grandson, James D. Gipson III.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty K. (Lee) Atkinson and S. Leann (Stephen) Bounds Jr., both of Vicksburg; two sons, James D. (JoAnn) Gipson Jr. of Ferriday, La., and Rollie “Trey” (Judy) Allen III of Edwards; a brother, Henry Dale Branch of Texas; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
