A Kentucky man is dead after his truck ran off Interstate 20 eastbound near the U.S. 61 North exit Monday evening.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said John Wayne Watkins, 63, of Harrodsburg, Ky., a driver for Bennett Truck Transport of McDonough, Ga., was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, possibly from a medical problem.

He said the body was taken to the state Crime Lab for an autopsy. He was the only person in the truck, Vicksburg police officer and accident investigator Russell Sumrall said.

The wreck occurred about 6:10 p.m., Sumrall said. He said witnesses on I-20 saw the truck leave the highway at the exit and go into an embankment on the left side of the highway.

“The truck went about 25 feet off the highway,” he said. “I don’t think he was trying to exit; it looked like the truck just went that way.

“When paramedics arrived, they got him out of the cab and tried to help him, but there was nothing they were able to do.”
