Vicksburg man faces sexual assault, other charges in Illinois

A Vicksburg man faces multiple charges after his Aug. 29 arrest in Ottawa, Ill.

According to the Ottawa, Ill., Times, Carvis E. Purvis, 29, faces charges of sexual assault, unlawful restraint and aggravated battery involving an incident at the Walmart in Ottawa.

He was being held in the LaSalle, County, Ill., Jail in lieu of $1 million bond, according to the jail’s inmate search website.

He has a Nov. 11 hearing date on the unlawful restraint charge, according to the website.

According to the newspaper article, Purvis is accused of entering a women’s restroom at the Walmart, going into a stall, holding a woman down, placing his hand over her mouth and trying to assault her.

Store employees intervened when they heard the woman scream for help.

Purvis, the article said, was helping move a boat from Waukegan, Ill., to Mississippi on the Illinois River.

The boat had been docked in the Ottawa area for several weeks, according to the article.
