Robert Funches Jr.

Funeral services for Robert Funches Jr. will be Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Vicksburg Auditorium with the Rev. Kevin Winters officiating; interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery with W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home in charge.

Visitation will be Tuesday Sept. 19 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Mr. Funches, the son of the late Robert Funches Sr. and Lydia Wallace, was born Jan. 18 1922, in Fishlake.

He passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at his home following a brief illness.  He was 95. 

He was a veteran of World War II, where he earned several medals including the American Theatre Ribbon, EAME Theatre Ribbon , the Bronze Star and the Victory Medal II. 

He had worked at the Hydrate Gas Company until its closure and then worked at the All Saints School until retirement.

He is survived by his companion, Ida Mae Evans of Vicksburg (51yrs); two sons, John L. (Penny) Evans and Tommy L. Evans, both of Vicksburg; Mary (Vernon) Thomas and Edna (Ollie) Dixson and Bobbie Evans,  all  of Vicksburg, 39 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and others.
