Briarfield romps past Tensas Academy

Holt Martin threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score as Briarfield Academy beat Tensas Academy 40-0 Friday in an MAIS eight-man football game.

Martin completed 6 of 13 passes for 111 yards, and added 121 rushing yards. Crews Fortenberry finished with 79 rushing yards, including a 29-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

Martin threw a 15-yard TD pass to Undrea Spencer and a 30-yarder to Daniel Frasier in the first quarter. He tossed a 31-yard TD pass to Grayson parker in the second quarter to go along with a 62-yard touchdown run.

Briarfield (5-1, 3-0 District E-2) won its third consecutive game and remained a half-game behind Riverdale for first place in District E-2.

Riverdale (5-1, 4-0) beat Tallulah Academy 18-12 on Friday. Prentiss Christian also went to 3-0 in the district by beating Rebul 45-0.

Briarfield and Prentiss Christian (6-0, 3-0) will play each other next Friday in Lake Providence, La. Briarfield plays at Riverdale the following week.

Riverdale 18, Tallulah 12

Tallulah Academy’s fading playoff hopes took another huge hit Friday night as the two-time defending MAIS eight-man champions lost to District E-2 frontrunner Riverdale Academy (5-1, 4-0 District E-2).

Kamden Messick scored the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter for Riverdale, on a 33-yard run. He also threw two touchdown passes.

Parker Kivett scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter for Tallulah, but was just 6-of-18 passing for 90 yards with four interceptions. Messick had two of the picks.

Hager Fortenberry rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown for Tallulah (3-4, 0-3), which lost its fourth consecutive game. The last three of those have been inside the district to Riverdale, Briarfield and Prentiss Christian, all of which are above the Trojans in the standings.
