COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Mississippi State has been an infrequent visitor to Texas A&M’s Kyle Field, but came in and ran the place on Saturday night.
Nick Fitzgerald threw a pair of touchdown passes, and added 105 yards and another score on the ground as Mississippi State manhandled Texas A&M 35-14.
The Bulldogs won in College Station for the first time since 1913, although this was only their third visit since then. More noteworthy was that this was only the second time the visiting team has won in the series since Texas A&M joined the Southeastern Conference in 2012 — and that there was little doubt which way this one was headed from the beginning.
Fitzgerald scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter and then threw an 8-yard scoring pass to Donald Gray with 3:30 left in the second to put the Bulldogs ahead 14-0.
After forcing a three-and-out on Texas A&M’s opening drive of the second half, Fitzgerald led the Bulldogs (6-2, 2-2 SEC) back down the field for another touchdown. It came on a 10-yard pass to Jordan Thomas that made it 21-0 with 11:47 left in the third quarter.
The Aggies (5-3, 3-2) finally got on the board on their next possession, with a 1-yard run by Keith Ford, but Mississippi State answered with its own scoring drive capped by Nick Gibson’s 14-yard run, and A&M never again threatened to get back in the game.
Marcus Peters returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, one of three interceptions for Mississippi State. MSU also held the Aggies to 285 total yards.
