East Mississippi wins MACJC title

SENATOBIA — Lindsey Scott threw a 20-yard touchdown pass in the second overtime, and Daniel Crowell scored on the ensuing two-point conversion to give East Mississippi Community College a wild 67-66 victory over Northwest Mississippi in the MACJC football state championship game on Saturday.

The teams combined for 1,302 yards of offense and 70 first downs.

Scott was 29-of-44 passing for 471 yards and five touchdowns. His 9-yard TD pass to Dontario Drummond with eight seconds left in the fourth quarter tied the game at 52.

Northwest quarterback Jack Abraham was 34-of-52 passing for 471 yards and five touchdowns. Former Warren Central star Demarcus Jones caught three passes for 42 yards and a touchdown for Northwest (8-2).

East Mississippi (10-1) won its second consecutive MACJC championship and fourth in five years. It also won the state title in 2009 and 2011.
