PCA soccer slips past Hillcrest

Porter’s Chapel Academy’s soccer team has played enough close games this season that it was bound to wind up on the right side of the scoreboard sooner or later.
Michael Brewer and Cameron Harvey each scored a goal in overtime Friday as PCA rallied to beat Hillcrest Christian 3-1.
PCA (3-7) had lost four games by a single goal this season, and fell behind 1-0 midway through the second half. Unlike in previous games, however, they were able to rally and pull out the victory.
The Eagles’ only win last season was a forfeit.
“I am so proud of these kids,” PCA coach David Case said. “Hopefully we are turning the program around and building a very competitive program.”
After Hillcrest scored to take a 1-0 lead on Friday, Korbin Higginbotham tied it for PCA and the game eventually went to two 10-minute overtime periods.
Both of the Eagles’ goals came in the first overtime. Brewer ripped a long shot from just past the centerline that made it by the keeper to give them a 2-1 lead. Moments later, Harvey chipped a shot past the keeper who had come out to challenge him to make it 3-1.
The Eagles made it stand up by shutting out Hillcrest in the second overtime period. Goal keeper Zachary Moore, making only his second varsity start, kept the Cougars at bay. He has only allowed three goals in his two games in net.
“This team has made a complete turnaround and has proven themselves every game with great efforts on the field and in practice,” Case said. “The season isn’t over and we will continue to work hard to win our remaining games.”
Porter’s Chapel’s next game is on Jan. 25, at home against River Oaks at 5 p.m.
