With high school now behind her, Warren Central’s Katelyn Morson has started preparing for the next phase of her soccer career.

She’s been practicing with Mississippi College’s women’s team, and will work with the Mississippi Blues SC of The Gulf Coast Premier League this summer. It’s not just a way to stay in the game, though. It’s preparation for the next level.

Last week, Morson signed to play at East Central Community College.

“It’s very exciting,” Morson said. “I will miss high school though, but now I get to go on to the next level.”

Morson was completely sold on taking her talents to the Warriors next season.

“I really enjoy the coach, and I really love the campus, and the president of the school,” Morson said.

Morson said she was focusing on her conditioning to get ready for the junior college level. Working with Mississippi College’s team and with the semi-pro Mississippi Blues will also help up her skill level.

“It was way more fast-paced than it was at the high school level, just because those girls have been playing, and they want to be there, and they want to get better, unlike some high school girls when it’s just like a social thing,” Morson said of her time with MC.

By the time soccer season rolls around at East Central Community College, Morson will have plenty of extra experience.

“It should have me very prepared for East Central,” Morson said.

Morson was a star for Warren Central this season, scoring seven goals and notching five assists. She tied for the team lead in goals and played several different positions during her high school career.

“It’s bittersweet. She led our team this year, and was one of the ones who set the standard for the next three years, so she’s going to be missed,” Warren Central coach Jay Madison said. “It was one of her goals when we started, so it’s good to see her achieve that.”

Morson’s impact was felt even further than the normal four years, as she joined the team at an early age.

“She’s been on the field either in a starting role or a sub role probably for the last five years, so she’s always been a key player here.” Madison said. “She’ll definitely be missed, but it’s good to see her take the next step and fulfill one of her dreams.”
