Two Texas men face charges of credit card fraud and giving false information to police after they tried to buy a $14,000 all-terrain vehicle with a phony debit card, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

He said Charles R. Carter, 32, of Arlington, Texas, and Lamar DeQuion Harris, 40, were being held without bail in the Warren County Jail pending an initial appearance Tuesday. He said Carter has holds placed on him by Meridian police, and Mount Pleasant, Texas and Bowling Green, Kentucky authorities on charges of grand larceny and credit card fraud.

Pace said Carter and Harris went to purchase a Polaris Sportsman ATV Saturday from Patriotic Sports on U.S. 61 North with a fake prepaid debit card. When employees began getting suspicious, the men left the ATV and drove off. They were later arrested on Interstate 20 by sheriff’s deputies. Further investigation indicated the men had been going across the country buying items with fake prepaid cards.
