Man accused of burglarizing local business

A Warren County man faces a charge of burglary of a business after his arrest Tuesday, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Coleman McKay, 37, 3700 Eagle Lakeshore Road, was being held without bail in the Warren County Jail pending an initial appearance Wednesday. He also faces a charge of malicious mischief.

McKay is accused of the weekend break-in of the Super Junior 1490 U.S. 61 North.

Pace said deputy Cpl. Robert Taylor responding to a burglar alarm call at the store arrived Saturday at 3 a.m. to find McKay in the store. According to the incident report on the call, McKay reportedly broke the glass in the store’s front door to enter it.

According to the report, McKay appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance and was taken by ambulance to Merit Health River Region, where he was hospitalized until Tuesday. When he was released from the hospital, he was arrested.

In other cases:

• A child was reportedly inappropriately touched by and 18-year-old at Bowmar Elementary School about 8:19 p.m. Monday. The complaint is under investigation.

• A 55-inch Phillips flat screen TV was reported taken about 10:17 a.m. Monday from a home in the 900 block of China Street.

• Shots were reported fired about 10:46 p.m. Monday in the 2200 block of Letitia Street.

• Shots were reported fired about 10:59 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Washington and Harris streets.

• Shots were reported fired about 6:07 p.m. Sunday in the Village Drive area.

• A Michael Kors purse containing a .380-caliber Ruger handgun and a .22-caliber handgun were reported taken about 7:05 p.m. Saturday from a 2011 Ford F-250 pickup parked at Dillard’s, 3505 Pemberton Square Blvd.

• Shots were reported fired about 2:51 a.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Stouts Street.

• Willie Neal, 70, 1609 Bodley St., was arrested about 8:17 p.m. Friday at Mission 66 and Baldwin Ferry Road on a charge of sixth-offense DUI. He was released on $25,000 bond.

• Shots were reported fired about 11:06 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Speed and Drummond streets.

• Shots were reported fired about 9:4 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of Speed Street.

• A 2017 Nissan Maxima was reported taken about 10:21 a.m. Friday from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 4105 Washington St. It was later recovered when the person who rented the car returned it.

• A Coach purse, credit cards and a driver’s license were reported taken about 10 a.m. Friday from a Toyota 4 Runner parked in the 300 block of Shady Lane.

• Shots were fired into a house occupied by two people in the 2600 block of Harrison Ave. about 11:46 p.m. Thursday. No one was wounded and no arrests have been made. The case is under investigation.

Police made the following arrests Thursday through Monday:

• Michael Brooks, age 56 of 171 Oak St. was arrested about 10:10 a.m. Monday on a warrant from another agency. He was also arrested about 2:17 p.m. Thursday on a charge of possession of marijuana.

• Harlan Wendall Ray, 49, 76, Post Oak Drive, was arrested about 1:37 p.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Washington Street on a charge of two counts of contempt of court.

• A warrant was served Monday on Ron Christopher Horton, 46, 507 Dead Man Alley.

• Derrick Leon Johnson, 41, 620 Locust St., was arrested about 8:03 p.m. Monday on a charge of disorderly conduct.

• Taurus Laird, 38, 1112 Martha St., was arrested about 12:52 a.m. Monday on a charge of first-offense DUI.

• Brian Claiborne, 38, 2721 Alcorn Drive, was about 2:16 a.m. Sunday during a traffic stop on charges of first-offense DUI, no driver’s license, no insurance and having an open container of alcohol.

• Sean East, 21, 2703 Oak St., was about 1:13 a.m. Saturday on a charge of contempt of court.

• Carl Thomas, 40, 225 Hometown Road, was arrested about 8:59 a.m. Saturday on charges of speeding, seatbelt violation and having a suspended driver’s license during a traffic stop.

• John Knight, 25, 282 Cottonwood St., Cary, was arrested about 10:34 a.m. Saturday on a charge of having no driver’s license.              

• Maurice Crutison, 29, 1013 Courtney Road, Hermanville, was arrested on about 11:30 a.m. Saturday on a warrant for contempt of court.             

• Diamond Smith, 29, 2781 Arcadia St., was arrested about 11:40 a.m. Saturday on a charge of two counts of contempt of court.             

• Adrian Woodson, 44, 5910 Fisher Ferry Road, was arrested about 3:15 p.m. Saturday on a charge for Contempt of Court.

• Demonte Freeman, 28, 7128 Grape Tree Terrace, Cordora, Tennessee, was arrested about 7:19 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for contempt of court.

• Larry Shoops, 44, 1202 Culkin Road, was arrested about 12:51 p.m. Friday on a charge of contempt of court.

• Carl Heard, 39, 2601 Military Ave., was arrested about 2:13 p.m. Friday for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.               

• Michelle Huell, 35, 2781 Arcadia St., was arrested about 9:51 p.m. Friday on a charge of two counts of contempt of court.
