The Southern Heritage Air Foundation’s “Best Little Airshow in the World,” is still several months away, but foundation officials are starting their plea for volunteers to help put on the show.
“We’re looking for people who are ready to work to help make the show a success,” foundation president Patty Meekus said. “ We’ve got a lot of things that have to be done during the show.”
Begun in 2004 at the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport in Mound, La., the weekend air show is held every other year, and features vintage World War II aircraft on display, model aircraft and performances by aerobatic teams and stunt pilots. All proceeds from the show benefit the Warrior Bonfire Project.
This year’s show is Oct. 12 and 13, with the Friday show beginning at twilight. Meekus said this year’s Friday show will be followed by a concert, but declined to name the performers.
She said two jobs handled by the volunteers during past shows have been transferred to other groups.
“We will have professionals handle the parking and the security,” she said.
She said anyone interested in volunteering for the show is invited to attend a 5:30 p.m. meeting March 12 at the Southern Heritage Air Museum hangar at the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport, 179 VTR Airport Road, in Mound. For more information call 318-574-2731.
