Vicksburg Fire Units responded to a fully involved mobile home fire Friday night.

Vicksburg Fire Department chief Craig Danczyk said a call was received around 9 p.m. Friday that a singlewide mobile home at 525 Hall Road was on fire. When Engine 5 arrived on scene, the unit was fully involved, Danczyk said, and they were unable to save the home.

“It is a total loss,” Danczyk said. “Typically on a mobile home fire, it is usually less than seven minutes that it can go from the early stages of the fire to on the ground. Usually it is a very, very short window to save that property. When the first arriving unit was on scene they reported it was fully involved so we were not able to save the structure.”

Danczyk said there were no injuries to occupants, firefighters or animals as a result of the fire, but they did have to rescue a dog that was chained to the outside of the home.

The fire remains under investigation, but Danczyk said the preliminary reports are that a candle in the home caused the fire.

“There were no utilities present as of Friday night when the fire occurred,” he said. “Statements by the occupant were she was using candles as she had no electricity. She had left the home to go down the street to a neighbor’s house and when she returned the home was on fire.”
