Whittington cruises to win at Clear Creek

Karley Whittington had no problem defending her home turf on Wednesday.

The Warren Central senior shot a 2-under par 70 to earn medalist honors at the Lady Viking Invitational at Clear Creek Golf Course. She was the only player to break par, and beat Presley Baggett of Germantown by eight shots.

Madison Central’s Savannah Murphy finished third, with an 85, and Germantown’s Emily Howard was fourth with an 86.

Baggett and Howard gave Germantown the team title, with a combined score of 164. Warren Central was second, with 167 and Madison Central third in the nine-team tournament with a 176.

Warren Central’s Mia Wamsley shot a 97 to finish ninth, and Sydney Stuart tied for 10th place with 101. In girls’ high school golf, the top two scores are counted for the team total.

St. Aloysius finished fifth in the team standings with a total of 205, one shot behind Northwest Rankin.

Caton Blackburn shot a 94 for the Lady Flashes to finish seventh in the individual standings. Chandler Tucker tied for 20th place with a 111, while teammates Elizabeth Keen and Ruth Ann Buckner each shot 115.
