School bond election Tuesday

Voters in Warren County will have the chance to go to the polls Tuesday and cast their vote for or against the Vicksburg Warren School District’s proposed $83 million bond referendum.

The election will be held at Vicksburg and Warren Central high schools with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. No students will be present on campus as the VWSD Board of Trustees approved a job shadow day for high school students.

Voters in District 1 who typically vote at Bovina Baptist Church, Sherman Avenue School, Oak Ridge Youth Center or Redwood Elementary School will vote at Warren Central as will voters in District 5 who typically vote at Calvary Baptist Church, Berachah Baptist Church, Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Hall, The Church of God or Porter’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

The election will be held in Gym A inside the front main entrance.

Voters in District 2 who typically vote at International Paper Mill, Vicksburg City Auditorium, Eagle Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Rolling Acres Community Center, Triumph Ministries Empowerment Center and Springhill M.B. Church will vote at Vicksburg High. Voters in District 3 —Travelers Rest Baptist Church, American Legion Post # 3 and Vicksburg Junior High School – Warren Central Junior High School, and District 4 — Elks Lodge # 95 BPOE, Goodrum Baptist Church, Immanuel Baptist Church and Yokena Presbyterian Church — will also vote at VHS.

The election at VHS will be held in the band hall.

“There will be signs with arrows helping people find it if they are not familiar with the campus,” Warren County election commission chairman Sara Dionne said. “There’s parking near both of the precincts. There’s parking at the band hall and there’s parking all over Warren Central.”

Voters must have a government issued picture ID with them in order to vote.

“It can be federal, state or local government,” Dionne said.
