WC tennis splits two matches

Warren Central’s tennis team earned a split decision earlier this week, winning one match and losing another at Halls Ferry Park.

The Vikings took a 4-2 decision over crosstown rival Vicksburg High on Monday, and then lost 6-1 on Tuesday against Brandon.

The boys doubles team of Greyson Parman and John Jabour won the only point against Brandon by winning their match 6-1, 6-0. Brandon only lost one other set in its six match victories. Warren Central’s George Wilkerson and Audrey Jennings put up a fight in their mixed doubles match before dropping a competitive three-setter 5-7, 7-5, 10-8.

The Vikings fared a lot better against Vicksburg. Ian Gordon and Elaina Bailey won their singles matches in straight sets, while Wilkerson and Wyatt Schrader did the same in boys doubles. Raven Thompson and Lexi Stewart also won 6-0, 6-2 in No. 1 girls doubles. and Steed Springfield and Jane Hopson beat Jaylah Peaches and Dennis Cage 6-0, 6-0 in mixed doubles.

Vicksburg’s Faye Valerio beat Bailey in girls singles 6-4, 6-1. Jonathan Boyd and Jon Bantugur got the Gators’ other point in No. 1 boys doubles by beating Parker Waites and Smith Patel 6-7, 6-2, 10-5.
