The Warren County Board of Supervisors met for nearly 45 minutes in executive session at the end of their regular meeting Monday to discuss a potential economic development project at the Ceres Industrial Complex.

Pablo Diaz, executive director of the Port Commission, requested through county board attorney Blake Teller for the executive session to discuss a potential client locating in the industrial park.

“This is a matter of a potential industry coming into Warren County,” Teller told the board.

By state law, the supervisors are allowed to meet in executive session to discuss such potential economic development.

Once they returned to their regular session, board president Richard George said the supervisors took no action on the matter, but at the request of Teller, the board agreed to a resolution that if the client located in the industrial park, they would be afforded the same economic advantages other industries in the county receive, such as ad valorem tax exemptions.

In other matters during their meeting Monday, the supervisors accepted Circuit Clerk Jan Daigre’s 2017 end of year report regarding over the cap fees. Daigre said the county will receive into the general fund $88,478.

George commended Daigre, as well as Chancery Clerk Donna Hardy, for the work each has done for county tax payers.

Teller also informed the board the Mississippi Attorney General approved the interlocal governmental cooperation agreement between the city of Vicksburg and Warren County for provision of a county jail outside the city limits.

Such an agreement is necessary for the supervisors to construct a new county jail a mile or more outside the city limits. Currently, city and county leaders have agreed on a location along U.S. Highway 80 at the old Pinewoods Hotel that includes 47 acres. The county is in the process of assessing the value of the property before making an offer to purchase the site from the landowner.
