Bulldogs rally to beat Razorbacks

STARKVILLE — Elijah MacNamee’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning capped a huge comeback for Mississippi State, as it rallied from a five-run deficit to beat Arkansas 6-5 on Friday night.

Eric Cole hit a grand slam in the second inning for Arkansas (28-11, 10-6 SEC), and Dominic Fletcher added a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 5-0.

Luke Alexander hit a three-run home run in the sixth for Mississippi State (20-19, 6-10), and the Bulldogs got three more runs in the eighth.

Jordan Westburg tied it with a two-run single, and then scored on MacNamee’s hit through the left side.

J.P. France (2-1) had nine strikeouts in four innings of scoreless relief for Mississippi State to earn the victory. Alexander and Jake Mangum each scored two runs.

The Bulldogs and Razorbacks will conclude their series with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon. Sunday’s game was moved up a day because of the threat of rain.

Georgia 3, Ole Miss 2

Ole Miss needs a Saturday sweep to avoid its third consecutive Southeastern Conference series loss.

Tucker Bradley hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the top of the ninth inning Friday to give Georgia a 3-2 victory in game one of its three-game series against Ole Miss.

Georgia took a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly, but Ole Miss (30-9, 8-8 SEC) tied it in the bottom half on an RBI single by Thomas Dillard. In the ninth, Mason Meadows reached on a one-out single and then scored on Bradley’s hit to give Georgia (27-11, 10-6) the lead for good.

The Rebels and Bulldogs will conclude their series with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday’s game was moved up a day because of the threat of rain.

Southern Miss 9, Middle Tennessee 1

Southern Miss kept scoring runs and kept on winning.

Daniel Keating’s bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the first inning helped the Golden Eagles jump out to a six-run lead on Middle Tennessee, and they went on to win 9-1 Friday in the series opener at Pete Taylor Park.

Southern Miss (26-11, 11-4 Conference USA) won its third game in a row, and has outscored its opponents 34-6 in that stretch. It has scored at least nine runs in all three games.

Keating finished Friday’s game 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Matt Wallner hit a solo home run, his 11th of the season, and Stevie Powers (4-1) allowed one run while striking out 12 in eight innings on the mound.

Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee (20-18-1, 6-9-1) will conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday’s game was moved up a day because of the threat of rain.
