Letter: Our children need to be protected

Published 7:22 pm Saturday, May 5, 2018

To the editor:

This letter is written to aid the citizens of Vicksburg in the making of a very important decision.  My main concern is the protection of young children, especially in child care centers.

The Board of Supervisors has proposed to put the Department of Motor Vehicle in a building on the corner of Drummond and Belmont streets.  My objection is not to the DMV but to the sexual offenders who must report there on different monthly schedules. The offenders can be from our county, any other county, or even from another state. There is a well-run child care center within 32-feet of the building.

Please join us in stopping the move because the Board of Supervisors has neglected to tell the public about the regular sex offenders. Please join us on the second floor of the Courthouse at 8:30 a.m. and before the Board at 9 a.m. on May 7, 2018, to voice our objection to putting sexual offenders so near the children on a regular basis.
