Driver tries to elude police after wreck

A Vicksburg man faces multiple traffic charges after he tried to run from a police officer Sunday night on Clay Street.
Quincy Lee Judge, 36, 55100 Gibson Road, was charged with first-offense DUI, no proof of insurance, having an expired driver’s license, reckless driving, running a stoplight, three counts of child neglect, five counts of seatbelt violation, and leaving the scene of the accident.
According to police reports, Judge was driving westbound on Clay Street at a high rate of speed when an officer tried to stop him. When the officer put on his blue lights, Judge tried to elude the officer, leading to a chase on Clay Street that ended when Judge ran off the road and into a ditch.
He ran off on foot, leaving three children and a woman in the car. The woman was trapped in the car and had to be cut out by firefighters. She was taken to Merit Health River Region, where she was treated in the hospital emergency room for minor injuries, Vicksburg police Sgt. Johnnie Edwards said.
Judge was later arrested at the Eastview Apartments, 1900 Baldwin Ferry Road. He was also charged with contempt court for an unrelated matter.
In other cases:
• A woman was struck in the knee by a bullet after someone shot into a 2014 Chevrolet in which she was a passenger, Vicksburg police Sgt. Johnny Edwards said. She was treated at River Region Medical Center and released. No arrests have been made.
• James Henry Smith, age not given, 714 Cherry St., was arrested about 9:32 a.m. Saturday and charged with the burglary of Walnut Hills, 1214 Adams St. He was being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
• George Edward Jones, 39, 1205 Central St., Jackson, was arrested Sunday about 1:48 a.m. on charges possession of concealed weapon by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bond.
