The wreck occurred just before noon in the northbound lane of U.S. 61 North, north of the Oak Ridge Road intersection.

According to information from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, preliminary reports indicated the car being pushed by Flowers was in a lane of travel and was struck from behind by another vehicle as it was being pushed to the shoulder. Both vehicles were in the northbound lane.

The wreck forced authorities to block off the northbound lanes of U.S. 61 North for several hours, and northbound traffic was rerouted into the southbound lanes while state troopers and sheriff’s deputies worked the wreck. The road was reopened after 2 p.m.

There were no other injuries reported and the wreck remains under investigation.
