A Warren County grand jury indictment accuses a former Vicksburg city employee of attempting to sell a prescription drug and conspiring with another person to sell it.
Malcolm Carson, 60, 1855 Standard Hill Road, is charged in the indictment with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and conspiracy to commit a felony. He is accused of trying to sell the drug Lyrica, which is used to treat pain from nerve damage caused by disease or injury. He is no longer employed by the city, Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said.
The indictment also accuses him of conspiring with an unnamed person on the indictment to sell the drug and exchange it for another substance.
Carson was arrested Feb. 4 on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
At the time, he had been a city employee since 2012, working in the city’s community services department, which oversees misdemeanor offenders who work off their fines from Municipal Court by working in city buildings and collecting trash from roadsides. He was suspended from the city and later dismissed.
In another case, James Colt Nichols, 35, 6918 Oak Ridge Road, was indicted on a charge of manslaughter by culpable negligence. He is accused in the Jan. 12 shooting death of George Sawyer Temple, 23, of Raymond at a private hunting club off Dudley Road in Warren County.
