“It was so exciting and such an honor,” Clingan said, “to receive the award.”

The awards ceremony was held June 7 at the Ocean Springs Community Center and recognized the hard work and commitment of several individuals, civic organizations, educational institutions and local, county and state governments to preserve the places that tell the story of Mississippi.

Formed in 2016, the Heritage Guild of Vicksburg & Warren County received the award for its exceptional accomplishments in restoration and preservation.

“We’re currently rehabilitating a home on Grove Street,” Clingan said.

The guild will host a community meeting July 10 at 11:45 a.m. at the Vicksburg City Auditorium. Guest speaker will be Jessica Crawford, Southeastern Regional Director of The Archaeological Conservancy, a national non-profit organization dedicated to the identification and preservation of the country’s most significant archaeological sites.
