Two truck drivers die after head-on collision in Mississippi

HAZLEHURST, Miss. (AP) — Two truck drivers are dead after a head-on collision in southwest Mississippi.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol tells local news outlets that an empty log truck hit a gravel truck on Mississippi 28 near Hazlehurst on Tuesday morning.

The driver of the log truck, 50-year-old Charles Ray Halford of Brookhaven, died before he could be taken to a hospital. The driver of the gravel truck, 49-year-old James E. Millinder of Crystal Springs, died after being taken by helicopter to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Highway Patrol spokesman Cpl. Kervin Stewart says Halford was traveling eastbound while Millinder was headed west. Officers worked to reconstruct the crash Tuesday as part of the investigation, but its cause remained unclear.
