The building was the former home of The Vicksburg Post and was gifted by the newspaper’s former owners, the Cashman family, to United Way and was intended to be its “forever home,” according to the press release.

The United Way sold the building to the Church of the Holy Trinity several years later. That sale included an agreement that would allow the United Way to continue to locate its offices there until the agreement’s expiration in 2020.

Officials for the United Way and for the Church of the Holy Trinity said they have been in discussions for more than three years, and finalized details of the new agreement within recent months.

“In agreeing to this long-term association and partnership, the United Way and the Church of the Holy Trinity are continuing a working relationship that dates back to an amazing gift by the Cashman family,” the press release reads.

“In our minds, this is a win-win opportunity for both the church and the United Way,” said Dick Ferguson, member of the Church of the Holy Trinity and chair of its finance committee. “What you have here is two non-profits coming together in a way that continues that work in serving and helping the Vicksburg and Warren County community.”

Terms of the purchase and agreement are not being disclosed, funds used in the purchase by the United Way came from an anonymous contributor, according to the press release. No donor funds, which are annually allocated to the United Way’s partner agencies, were used.

The purchase and condominium agreement mean the dream of the Cashman family years ago will continued to be realized, the two groups wrote in the press release.

“We stand on the shoulders of those who have contributed to moving United Way forward over the last 64 years,” said Michele Connelly, executive director of United Way of West Central Mississippi. “We celebrate today because of the amazing gifts we have received and the fabulous partnerships we have formed.”
